OECD Watch and CEDHA organise side event during Rio+20 summitJun 08, 2012
On the 16th of June from 15:30 - 17:00 OECD Watch and its Coordination Committee CEDHA from Argentina will organize a side event at the Rio+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development.
Responsible corporate conduct is essential for all aspects of sustainable development and establishing a fair and green economy. In 2011 the international community has advanced in developing standards for responsible corporate conduct, mainly in the field of due diligence and human rights. The OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises (the OECD Guidelines) have been updated in May 2011 and the United Nations’ Human Rights Council approved its Guiding Principles for Human Rights and Transnational Corporations in June 2011.
The workshop will focus on the standards outlined in the OECD Guidelines and its associated specific instance mechanism which enables affected workers and communities to address cases of corporate misconduct at National Contact Points (NCP) to the OECD Guidelines. The workshop will furthermore specifically look at possibilities of using the OECD Guidelines in a Latin-American context.
