Submission of OECD Watch on the OECDs 2.1 Draft General Due Diligence for Responsible Business Conduct and its draft Companion to the Due Diligence Guidance. The submission was provided to the OECD in February 2017 as part of its public consultation process over the draft documents and gives substantive comments and recommendations for additional improvements that are required should the document become an authoritative source of guidance for companies to identify, prevent, mitigate and remediate adverse impacts through Responsible Business Conduct due diligence.

Canada is back
November 2016 OECD Watch

This November 2016 report provides an assessment of Canadas National Contact Point (NCP) for the OECD Guidelines.  The report assesses the NCPs performance to date, particularly with regard to harm prevention and access to remedy. It examines the NCPs handling of five complaints concerning Canadian corporate misconduct abroad, all of which involved allegations of human rights violations and/or environmental harm associated with the extractive sector, and provides analysis to illustrate the ineffectiveness of the NCP grievance process.  The report was published by Above Ground, MiningWatch Canada and OECD Watch.

OECD Watch Response to G7 Leaders’ (In)Action

At this years 42nd Annual G7 Summit in Japan, G7 leaders failed to address their previous commitments towards responsible business conduct.  In contrast to the June 2015 Leaders Declaration following last years summit in Schloss Elmau, Germany, commitments to improve responsible supply chains and access to remedy were notably omitted from the agenda. Given the vital need for G7 leaders to elaborate on how they will work to ensure responsible supply chains and better apply internationally-recognized labour, social and environmental standards, civil society criticizes this omission and calls on the G7 to back their expressed commitment with six immediate actions.
