A new fact sheet from OECD Watch and the Business and Human Rights Resource Centre (BHRRC) sheds light on the risks to human rights defenders who complain to OECD National Contact Points. Reprisals against human rights defenders are increasing worldwide.

Research by OECD Watch and BHRRC explores the incidence of reprisals related to NCP complaints filed by communities and NGOs. NCPs should do better to protect defenders using the OECD Guidelines complaint system, and they are in a unique position to have meaningful impact. The OECD risks falling behind best practice of other grievance mechanisms if it does not prioritize focus on protection for defenders. This fact sheet offers recommendations to reform the grievance system to help keep defenders safe.
