Allegations
On 2 October, World Animal Protection Netherlands filed a specific instance against Rabobank at the Dutch NCP. The complaint concerns the financial services that Rabobank provided to companies globally that cause and contribute to severe adverse welfare impacts on farmed animals in countries as Brazil, Australia and USA. The complainants allege that Rabobank is in breach of Chapter VI (Environment) regarding animal welfare and Chapter II (General Policies) regarding transparency and responsible lobbying of the OECD Guidelines.
The Complainants are seeking mediation from the NCP to facilitate a mutually acceptable resolution to the concerns raised in the specific instance.
Responsible business standards on animal welfare were incorporated into the OECD Guidelines in the 2023 update of the Guidelines. More information on animal welfare in the Guidelines is available on OECD Watch’s website.
