OECD Watch held its biennial Global Gathering in Istanbul, Türkiye from 8 to 10 April 2025. The Gathering was co-hosted by Business and Human Rights Association Türkiye, Center for Spatial Justice, and Transparency International Türkiye. Over 60 participants from 47 civil society organisations based in 29 countries, as well as from academia and the OECD, joined to share their insights and priorities. The conference report summarises the discussions held at the Gathering, particularly highlighting key action steps recommended for OECD Watch in the short, medium, and long term.
Looking forward
The Gathering provided us with a key opportunity to look to the future of the OECD Watch network. Three key proposals were discussed with attendees:
- Refining our future strategy and activities: what should OECD Watch focus on to ensure it aligns with global challenges and civil society priorities?
- Strengthening the network structure and membership engagement: how can OECD Watch strengthen engagement by and between members, and diversify global leadership, through changes to its ways of working and network structure?
- Clarifying the network’s hosting arrangement: should OECD Watch change its hosting arrangement (currently with SOMO, in Amsterdam) or consider becoming an independent organisation?
Have your say on the future of the OECD Watch network
We have gathered a lot of input from members and partners over the course of our 2024-25 strategy and governance review, and are keen to continue ensuring that all of our broad membership gets a say in the future of the network. We are calling on all our members to join online consultations in the coming month.
During each call we will provide further information about the three proposals, allowing time for questions and feedback from the group. Each session will cover the same topics, but have been scheduled to accommodate different time zones. Two sessions will provide simultaneous interpretation in Spanish and French (see details of each session below).
